Drawn To The City

by The Ragamuffins

/

about

Drawn To The City is a decade-spanning love-letter to the city of Barcelona.

lyrics

Well it's not as if I needed an excuse to hit the road
Before moral around the country took a nosedive
So with a suitcase and a dream to carry
Wave goodbye to January
For promises of memories that stand to last a lifetime

I've watched the vaguest of flamenco sketches
Painted across the edges
As the ocean starts to eat away the coastline
And then through Catalunyan catacombs
We'll burst out of the gloom
And try to overwhelm our senses in the meantime

If chasing down a dream feels like the best mistake you've made
If life don't give you lemons then you can't make lemonade
You'll never feel the sunshine if you're sitting in the shade for all your life
But this is all I've ever needed to survive

I've watched early morning street performers
Setting up their tourist traps
And Middle Eastern refugees who've seen their little worlds collapse
And hoards of multi-millionaires remembered for a lapse in concentration

You'll never know for certain if you're scared to roll the dice
You could make a steady living out of liberating mice
And just like Bobby Dylan said if you don't think about it twice
Then it's alright
But this is all I've ever needed to survive

We'll keep dancing round piazzas like we'll never taste defeat again
And picking up on customs while you're waiting for the train
Like how you're turning up the bottoms of your trouser legs
In Venice when it rains

So just kiss me once for practice when I'm running out of luck
We'd struggle going anywhere by doing it by the book
And for every single tender little moment that you've took try taking five
But this is all I've ever needed to survive
